Best WiFi setup for smooth screen mirroring.

Mirroring sends a live HD video stream over your WiFi. The app works on almost any modern router, but a few things make a real difference for smoothness:

Best

  • 5GHz WiFi (or WiFi 5 / WiFi 6) for the iPhone
  • TV connected by Ethernet or 5GHz
  • Router less than 4 years old

Will work but may lag

  • 2.4GHz only (slower, more crowded band)
  • Older routers with low CPU (some ISP-supplied units)
  • Many active devices streaming simultaneously

Won't work

  • Networks with AP/client isolation enabled (typical for hotels, schools, offices)
  • Captive-portal networks where you have to log in via a browser
  • Phone on cellular while the TV is on WiFi — they must share a network

Mirror lag is almost always a router issue, not an app issue. If 4K mirroring stutters, switch to "Standard" quality in Settings — this halves the bitrate and is invisible at normal viewing distance.
